Why Visit The Alentejo?

The Rolling Hills of the Alentejo

Set in picturesque rolling plains, the vineyards in the Alentejo region produce fantastic wines. Many are made using native grape varieties such as, Trincadeira, Aregones, Tinto Roriz (Tempranillo across the border in Spain) to name a few. Most vineyards also grow traditional varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah(Shriaz) and Chardonnay that go into making great examples of these wines.

As well as wine, the Alentejo is the centre of agriculture in Portugal. Much of the food produced here goes to markets in the cities. What is left goes into making traditional meals that you simply must try. Along with fruit, vegetable and livestock, the region also produces the bulk of the world’s cork. It keeps your wine in your bottle, so it is a very valuable industry indeed!

Our tours will travel throug the most stunning areas of the Alentejo region. Stopping to take in some of the sites, as well as experiencing the wine and food that makes this place even more special.

Some tours we offer will stop off in Setubal. Thanks to the Romans, Setubal has a long history of wine production. Setubal is famous for its Moscatel wine. Made in a similar way to Port, it offers a fresher taste, but keeping the luxurious feel of a fortified wine. Setubal is also the home of the Periquita brand of red wine. While we are in Setubal, trying some of the local food is also a must, so be sure to try a Tart de Azeitao while you are there.

There are many wineries to choose from. We will take your to the best wineries to sample their fantastic products. You will not need to worry about the navigation, driving, or enjoying a little too much wine. You can relax and enjoy the stunning scenary that the Portuguese country-side has to offer, as an experienced guide does all the hard work for you!

We offer great value wine tasting tours to the heart of Portugal:
